KUNISADA (1786-1865) Two kabuki actors. (Sold)

Artist: Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865)
Subject: Two kabuki with three geisha at Umemoto Teahouse. On the right Iwai Kunmesaburo II (?) is holding a cup. On the left Onoe Kikugorō III (Otowaya) is standing dressed with an elaborate overcoat. In the background two storage boxes for the samisen.
Signature: Ōjū Kunisada ga. Poems by Ryūfūtei Shirube no Hanagake and another poet.
Date: ca. 1825
Publisher: Privately published by the poets.
Size: Surimono, shikishiban diptych. Right sheet 21x18,5 cm. Left sheet 21,6x19 cm.
Medium: Woodblock color print with metal pigments.
Remarks: A rare complete diptych. Another impression of the left sheet only is in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, no. P.496-1937. Apparently no other complete diptych are in the main museums' collections.
Conditions: Very good impression and color, good condition.
